60 Feet Tall from last years debut, Horehound, opened their 75minute set with smoky flashing strobes, bluesy riffs and lead singer Alison Mosshart standing atop a speaker. Peering at the rabid crowd, she cupped her mic then dropped it, whipped around her long, black hair and looked like a wild animal ready to pounce. For the first half of the show, the band concentrated on Horehound tunes including Hang You from the Heavens, So Far from Your Weapon and I Cut Like a Buffalo before segueing into brand new songs. This wasnТt just a gloomy wall of sound though, they also showed a lightness of touch, and subtlety that many bands ignore in this cluttered stonergrunge hybrid area The keyboards, which were lost in the mix for much of the set, provided depth, and their southern roots, though not overt, added a gothic hue to the sound At times they were truly mesmeric, locking themselves into a groove and creating soundscapes that wouldnТt have been out of place on a Tool album They were, and are, that good, and if you missed them, tough.
